Electrician in Zebulon, NC
By Giancarlo Balbuena · October 31, 2026
My name is Giancarlo Balbuena. I’m the electrician behind The One Above Electrical, and I’m based in Zebulon, NC. When someone in this part of Wake County types “electrician near me,” I want to be the person who shows up. Not a call center, not a company two towns over. Someone local who knows the area and gives you a real answer the same day.
I work on homes across Zebulon, Wendell, Knightdale, Wake Forest, Rolesville, Clayton, Garner, Youngsville, Louisburg, and east Raleigh. Some of those towns have newer neighborhoods with homes built in the last few years. Others have houses that have been around for a long time. The work looks different depending on the house, and I’ve gotten used to both.
What Homeowners in Zebulon Usually Call Me For
Most of my work falls into a handful of categories:
- Outlets that stopped working, or adding a GFCI in a kitchen, bathroom, or garage
- Ceiling fans and light fixtures
- Recessed lighting in living rooms and kitchens
- Panel upgrades when a home needs more capacity
- EV chargers and 14-50 outlets in the garage
- Generator hookups with interlocks or inlets
- Remodels where walls are open and it’s time to run new circuits
I also do hot tub and pool wiring, smoke detectors, outdoor and landscape lighting, and troubleshooting when something stops working and nobody can figure out why. If you’re not sure whether what you’re seeing is a big deal or a small one, a photo usually answers that fast.
Remodels: What Happens Before the Walls Close

This is from a recent remodel in the area. TV bracket mounted, outlet rough-in started, cables staged before the walls go back up. Getting the electrical done at this stage means you’re not opening drywall again later to fix something that should have been run the first time.
I work with homeowners on remodels and additions. I also do rough-in and trim for builders on new construction. If you’re redoing a kitchen, finishing a room, or adding a bathroom, having the electrical figured out early makes the whole job smoother. It’s easier to add a circuit when the walls are still open.
Recessed Lights and Rough-In Work

This is from a rough-in job in the area. Ceiling open, recessed boxes set, wire run and ready for inspection before drywall. Most homeowners never see this part of the job, but it’s where it either gets done right or it doesn’t.
Adding recessed lights to an existing room is something I do as part of remodels and as a standalone project. Whether the ceiling is open or finished, the approach depends on what’s above and how much access there is. I’ll know more once I see the space.
A Few Things You Can Check Yourself
If an outlet stops working, the first thing to check is a GFCI outlet nearby with a reset button. They’re in bathrooms, kitchens, and garages, and one tripped GFCI can knock out several outlets in the same area. Press the reset button and see if that brings them back.
If a whole circuit goes out, check the breaker panel for one that looks tripped. A tripped breaker sits between on and off instead of fully on. Flip it all the way off, then back on.
If you smell something burning near an outlet, a switch, or the panel, or if an outlet feels warm to the touch, don’t try to diagnose it yourself. Turn off the breaker if it’s safe to do so and call an electrician. That’s a situation that needs eyes on it before anything else happens.
EV Chargers and Generator Hookups
Homeowners upgrading their setup ask about EV charger installs and generator hookups. For EV chargers, I run the circuit and install the outlet or hardwired unit. For generators, I install an interlock or inlet box so you can connect a portable generator without back-feeding the grid.
Both jobs start with a look at the panel. The main things that affect the scope are how far the garage is from the panel, whether the panel has room for a new breaker, and what kind of charger or generator you’re working with. Text me a photo of your panel and your garage and I’ll tell you what we’re looking at.
Licensed Electrician in Zebulon, NC
I’m licensed and insured in North Carolina. Jobs that require a permit get pulled and inspected the way they’re supposed to be. For service work, Duke Energy has to disconnect and reconnect power. That’s standard for any service change. I’ll walk you through the process before we start.
I serve Zebulon and the towns around it: Wendell, Knightdale, Wake Forest, Rolesville, Clayton, Garner, Youngsville, Louisburg, and east Raleigh. Text a photo of the job to (984) 284-2180 and I’ll get back to you with a quote the same day.
